- ABSTRACT This research aimed to determine the effect of group-investigation (GI) type of cooperative learning model to student’s cognitive skill and retention on environmental pollution subconcepts at class X in SMAN 5 Cilegon. The method used was a quasi-experiment with randomized control group only design. The population in this research were all students of class X SMAN 5 Cilegon second semester of the school year 2012/2013. The sample of this research were students of X4 class as an experiment class and students of X2 class as a control class which determined by simple random sampling technique. Data were obtained by objective tests using multiple choice questions, observation sheets, and questionnaires. Data were analyzed using t test and Mann Whitney test to test the hypothesis. Based on the result of the hypothesis test at significance level α=0,05, it can be concluded that group-investigation type of cooperative learning model has effect to student’s cognitive skill and retention on environmental pollution subconcepts at class X in SMAN 5 Cilegon.
