- This study aims to determine the ability to understand the concept of students who use the method of active learning type of index card match against students using the lecture method. Type of research used is quasi experiments in the form of non equivalent control group design. Sampling is done by using purposive sampling. The selected sample is VB class as experiment I and VA class as experiment II as experiment class II which get treatment by using lecture method. Based on pretest data processing, the average score of the students of experiment class I is 50,96 while the experiment 2 class 45,77 from the difference test of the mean value of class at significant level = 0,05 obtained titung 2,11 and ttabel 1,674. So it can be concluded that the ability to understand the concept of students on social science before I give the treatment is a little different. After learning, both classes are given posttest. Based on the data processing and posttest obtained the average of experimental results I of 83.22 while the experiment II of 70.2 from the results of the difference test average. Based on the results of the study can be concluded that the ability of understanding the concept of students in the subjects of social studies students using active learning method type index card match there is a significant difference and better than students using the lecture method.
