  • This research paper was about improving students’ speaking skills through information gap activity at the eighth grade of MTs Al-mubarok Serang. The objectives of the research were to know the implementation of information gap activity. It related to the students’ speaking skills improvement after giving information gap activity. The research methodology was CAR (Classroom Action Research), which consisted of cycles. The first cycle was the application of information gap activity, and the next cycle was the revision of the previous cycle. This research consisted of two cycles with three meetings for every cycle; two meetings for the materials, and one meeting for the test. The research started from 30th of October to 15th of November 2014. The researcher used observation sheet, test and documentation as the instruments. Finally, information gap activity not only gained students’ interest in learning descriptive text but also can help students in improving their speaking skills. The atmosphere of the classroom when learning descriptive text through information gap activity was really fun. In addition, students can understand the learning of descriptive through information gap activity easier. The result of the research showed that there were improvements in students’ speaking skills after applying information gap activity in learning descriptive text. It can be seen from the progress of students’ score before and after the cycles conducted. In pre-test students get average score 54 and in the first post test of cycle 1 the score was 63,6 the score was improve to 76,13 in the second post test of cycle 2 there was improvement also from 63,6 become 67,13 from the progress of their scores of the first and second post test, they have made a significant improvement in speaking skills. The aspect of speaking skills such as grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and fluency are having improvement better that before.
