  • The aroma on rice arises because the plant has a gene that controls the nature of the aroma. This study aims to identify the local Banten accession of rice which has an aromatic gene through primary SSR markers adrift of aromatic gene and to knows the progeny. This research was begins with DNA isolation, quantitative and qualitative DNA tests, DNA amplification by PCR technique and data analysis with Gel Analyzer, Power Marker and NT-SYS. The results show that 6 primary SSR linked with aromatic gene markers, and the alleles are polymorphic (100%) and highly informative. Primer RM 223 has heterozygosity (0,03) and second highest diversity (0,90). The highest value of PIC was primer RM 9 with 0,92. Thus RM 223 and RM 9 can be recommended as encoding aromatic genes. The result of progeny analysis were 2 main groups namely group A (aromatic) and group B (non-aromatic). Group A consists of 2 subgroups, A1 with genetic similarity of 0,68-0,79 contained 20 accessions of rice and A2 with genetic similarity of 0,64-0,79 contained 3 accessions of rice. Group B consists of 2 subgroups where B1 with a genetic similarity of 0,59-0,79 contained 10 accessions of rice, and B2 with a genetic similarity of 0,59 contained 1 accession of rice.
