- This research is motivated by GI learning model which has student center learning stage, which is the model that teachers often use in learning is just monotonous and concentrated only on the teacher. The purpose of this research is to know the difference of understanding ability of science concept and motivation between students who get cooperative type model of GI learning with direct learning model. Quasi-experimental research of this type of Quasi Experiments tested the ability to understand the concept and motivation of student learning by applying GI learning model and direct learning. The population in this study were all fourth graders of elementary school, while the sample in this research was class IV B as experiment class treated with GI learning model and class IV A as control class which treated by direct learning model . The results obtained from the data processing with the results of statistical calculations using SPSS 22 applications in the experimental class and control with the significance level of 0.05 are as follows (1) Test data normality of the ability of understanding the concept of pretest experimental class obtained value Sig = 0.05 and data pretest control class obtained Sig value = 0.61. (2) Test of data normality of comprehension ability of posttest concept of experimental class obtained Sig = 0,46 and control class posttest data obtained Sig = 0,04. (3) Test of normality of learning motivation data of science student of pretest of experimental class obtained Sig = 0,31 and pretest data of control class obtained by Sig value = 0,01. (4) Test of normality of learning motivation data of science of science of post test of experiment class obtained by Sig = 0,00 and data of posttest of control class obtained by Sig value = 0,08. (5) Homogeneity test of pretest concept comprehension data obtained Sig = 0.36. (6) The t-test of understanding of the concept of pretest class is obtained Sig = 0.18 and the posttest class is obtained Sig = 0.21. (7) Student's learning motivation t test on pretest data Sig = 0.40 and posttest data obtained Sig = 0.48. Viewed from the results it is known that students who get cooperative learning model type GI does not have differences in the ability of understanding the concept and motivation of science learning with students who get direct learning model. As well as the ability to understand the concept and motivation to learn science IPA students who get cooperative learning model type GI is not better than students who get direct learning model.
