By : MINGSEAR GAMERA (7773150040) The Minimum Wage policy is the only Government of Indonesia policy directly and explicitly linked to the wages of the Workers. The function of Trade Unions as representatives of workers in cooperation institutions in the field of employment, especially the wage council has become the latest issue, with the enactment of the Government Regulation of the Republic of Indonesia No. 78 of 2015 on wages. So far, the role of Trade Unions as one of the elements involved in discussing the minimum wage is evident, but in the process of formulation of Minimum Wage according to Government Regulation No. 78 of 2015 on Wages is calculated according to the new minimum wage calculation formula, that is, the sum of Minimum Wages Current year plus the multiplication of the Minimum Wage for the current year with the sum of the national inflation rate for the current year and the growth rate of the gross domestic product of the current year. Thus, the role of unions that are commonly involved in the formulation of the minimum wage seems to be unclear, as the minimum wage increase rises automatically according to the formula. The Government Regulation of the Republic of Indonesia Number 78 Year 2015 concerning the remuneration still accommodates the task of the Wage Council in order to recommend the determination of the Minimum Wage. However, the implementation of the Wage Council's duties in relation to the Decent Living Survey (KHL) component survey was diverted to conduct an assessment in the context of preparing the national wage system. The Wage Council is more empowered to undertake the development of a wage system and to provide assistance in the preparation of the structure and scale of wages in the company which is also a mandate from the Government Regulation of the Republic of Indonesia Number 78 of 2015 on the remuneration. It is better for workers in fighting for decent wages through the development of wage system applied in every company by applying wage structure and scale that pay attention to class, position, work period, education, and competence. So that the wage system in every company has a clear structure with wage criteria based on fair wages scale and can be accounted for.
