This study aims to determine whether the ultimate increase student’s Critical- Mathematical Thinking Capability and Self Efficacy who received study with Cooperative Learning in Group Investigation Type better than students who received study with direction learning. Student’s critical thinking capability grouped into high, medium and low categories. The method used in this research is quasi experimental with non equivalent control group design. The study population was all students in grade VIII SMP Negeri 7 Kota Serang. Sampling was done by using cluster sampling. Samples were class VIII-C as an experimental class and VIII-D as the control class. The result of the research concludes that: (1) The improvement of student’s Critical-Mathematical Thinking Capability and self efficacy of the experiment class better than control class. (2) The improvement of student’s critical-mathematical thinking capability by grouping high, medium, and low categories of the experiment class better than control class. (3) The improvement of student’s self efficacy with high and medium category in critical-mathematical thinking capability of the experiment class better than control class, while the improvement of student’s self efficacy with low category in critical-mathematical thinking capability of the experiment class is not better than control class.
