This research is motivated by the lack of critical thinking skills of students in social studies. It is caused by one learning are still centered on the teacher and not the student is active. One effort to overcome these problems is to use cooperative learning model open-ended learning. This study aims to determine the application of open-ended model of cooperative learning on students' critical thinking skills, especially in the matter of social problems. The research was conducted at SDN Karang Tumaritis Serang 2016/2017 school year. The method used is a quasiexperimental research design Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The sampling technique used is a type of Non-Probability Sampling purposive sampling to select two classes as a research subject. In this study, the class as a class IV A and IV B control as the experimental class. Based on the results, it can be concluded that there are significant differences between critical thinking ability of students to use the cooperative model of open-ended learning the critical thinking skills of students using direct learning model (Direct Instruction). This is evident from the results of calculations using t-test, ttest = 3.86 is obtained price and the price table = 2.002, with dk = 58 and ɑ = 0.05. So to test the two parties obtained - ttable <ttest> ttable, then Ho is rejected and Ha accepted. Meanwhile, to test the one hand the results obtained ttest > ttable, with ttest = 3.86 and ttable = 1.672, so Ha is received, which indicates that the critical thinking skills of students in the experimental class is higher than the control class.
