- This study aims to determine: the effect of hydrothermal pretreatment on the production and the percentage of methane in biogas hyacinth. Water hyacinth has lignocellulose that can be converted to simple sugars and fermented to produce biogas. In enzymatic hydrolysis, lignocellulose can not be converted to simple sugars fractions due to the strong bonding of the crystalline nature of lignin and cellulose in the lignocellulose. Therefore we need early treatment that could damage ties lignin and make it easy for the bacteria convert cellulose into glucose in order to gain increased biogas. This study was the independent variable experiment consists of hydrothermal time variations. Time variations used were 0, 30, 60, and 90 minutes at a temperature of 170o C. Comparison of water and water hyacinth in the digester is 1: 1. The type of digester used was a batch system with 5 litters size. The experimental design used was completely randomized design (CRD) non-factorial. Analysis using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) followed by Duncan's Multiple Range Test. The results of the study at 170o C temperature within 60 minutes have a value of biogas production and the highest percentage of biogas. The volume of biogas produced was 16161 mL within 50 days and rate of production 13,467 mL/h with the percentage of methane is 43.38%, while the volume of biogas without pretreatment of 3199.167 mL and rate of production 2,6659 mL/h with 6.71% methane percentage. It showed that the hydrothermal pretreatment can increase the rate of biogas production and methane percentage of water hyacinth (Eichornia crassipes). ANOVA results indicated that the hydrothermal pretreatment significant effect on the rate biogas production. After DMRT, it was known that the hydriotermal pretreatment for 60 minutes was optimum in increasing the rate of biogas production. The results of this study were implemented in education as student worksheet (LKS) class XII. Based on feasibility test, worksheets that have been made otherwise good and decent as a learning resource class XII students on the concept of biotechnology. Keywords: hydrothermal, biogas, water hyacinth, biogas production rate, the percentage of methane.
