- Basically the mechanical properties and microstructure of carbon steelwill change during welding process because the process of melting on the parent metals (base material). To overcome this then the material being welded was given heat treatment, in addition to getting mechanical properties as well to reduce the voltage remaining (residual stress). Then on this research will be examined the temperature and time of detention he did best to tempering, knowing the value of yield and tensile strength, toughness and hardness value of carbon steel after heat treatment is given in the form of tempering. Carbon steel welding, which has given the heat back up to temperature of 5200C, then quenching with water media for 30 minutes further heat treatment was given back in the form of tempering with a temperature variant 2000C, 3000C and 5000C, with a detention time 1.2 and 3 hours. Testing does is pull testing, testing, testing impact structure of micro and micro vickers testing. The best tensile strength value on carbon steel that has been tempering with a temperature of 2000C i.e. 508 N/mm2 higher than carbon steel that does not get warm up i.e. 499 N/mm2. The best toughness value on carbon steel that has been tempering with a temperature 5000C 32.02 joule/mm2 higher than carbon steel that are not getting the treatment that is 26.29 joule/mm2. The value of hardness does not get preferential treatment on parent metal 198 HVN, Haz 216 HVN and weld 192 HVN. After tempering at the parent metal 227 HVN, Haz 250 HVN and weld 219 HVN at 3000C
