- The purpose of this study was to improved students learning outcome at grade I of SDN Kutabumi I in syllables reading material, the research had been conducted from August 2017. The data analysis technique is by testing the normality, if the data is not normal then using Mann-Whitney U test. The research methodology used was quasi experiment with research sampels is student class IB and IC with purposive sampling technique. The mean pretest in the experimental class was 6,28 while in the control class was 4,15. After the learning process using the smart card media reading the syllsbles in the experimental class the mean in posttest was 7,21 while in the class using the image media in the control class was 6,19. The improve of learning outcomes can be seen from the mean of gain in experimental class was 0,27 and the control class was 0,25. In control class and experiment class had different learning result significantly. So it can be concluded that there are differences in the ability of student who use media smart card reading with students who use media images and there is an increasw in the ability of students who use the media smart card reading this syllables better than the students who use the media images.
