This study is motivated by the low level of mathematical reasoning ability of Indonesian Students is below the International average. This study aims to determine the level student’s mathematical reasoning ability in terms of cognitive style and provide advice to educators about learning methods that are suitable for students according to the cognitive style possessed in order to improve Indoneisan student’s mathematical reasoning ability. This study used descriptive qualitative approach. Subjects in this study consisted of 12 students with cognitive style field dependent and 9 students with cognitive style field independent. The result of the study it was foud that (1) The mathematical reasoning ability of student’s cognitive style of field independent are better than those of student’s cognitive style of field dependent; (2) In doing the task or problem given by the teacher, the student’s cognitive style of field independent tend not to require detailed instructions to understanding the task or problem. The student’s cognitive style of field dependent tend to require more instructions to understanding the task or problem; (3) In activities of reasoning thinking, the student’s cognitive style of field independent have reasoning thinking ability better than those student’s cognitive style of field dependent; (4) Learning methods that are suitable for student’s cognitive style field dependent is cooperative learning method type Think Pair Share (TPS) and expository learning method. For student who have cognitive style of field independent are that suitable with cooperative learning type Team Assisted Indvidualizationi (TAI) and learning start with a question (LSQ) learning method.
