- This research is motivated by the importance of the ability of understanding the concept of mathematical studens in the material sets that can be taught in junior high school to solve problems in daily life. It is knowing by doing test questions and interview against some junior high school students. This study aims to describe the : (1) the ability of understanding the concept of mathematical of junior high school students grade vii on the material sets (2) the factors that affect difficulties in learning for each ability of students for understanding of concept in the material sets of junior high school grade vii based on the school accreditation. This research method use is descriptive qualitative research. The results showed that of the 30 students there were 16 students who have the ability to very good understanding, two students who have the ability to good understanding, eight students who have the ability to rufficient understanding, and four students who have the ability of understanding which is very less. The influencing factor is internal factors and external factors.
