- ABSTRACT This research aimed to find out the effect of water hyacinth hydrothermal pretreatment which was mixed with buffalo dung toward biogas production rate and methane percentage and making the learning media magazine form twelfth grade students in Biotechnology concept. This research is an experimental study by using in Complete Randomized Design (CRD) with two factors. The first factor was the length of hydrothermal pretreatment were treated on water hyacinth is 0 minutes, 30 minutes, 60 minutes, and 90 minutes. The second factor was the composition variation of water hyacinth and buffalo dung, which was 1:2, 1:1, and 2:1. All the treatments were carried out at room temperature of digester with three time replication. Measurement parameters were conducted every three days. Data were analyzed by ANOVA than followed by DMRT at the 5% significance level. The Magazine was made based on the research. It expendency was measured by expert evaluations. The experts consisted of two learning media experts, material experts, and high school biology teacher in twelfth grade. This research was conducted in the laboratory of Biology Education and Agriculture Faculty of Sultan Agung Tirtayasa University on April-July 2014. The results showed that water hyacinth by hydrothermal pretreatment wich was mixed with buffalo dung could increase the yield of biogas and give different influence on the flow of production. However, water hyacinth by hydrothermal pretreatment wich was mixed with buffalo dung did not give a significant influence on the percentage of methane (CH 4 ) in biogas that was produced. Biology magazine whice was produced had a suitable category as an alternative learning resources on the Biotechnology concept in twelfth grade of senior high school. Keywords: magazine, hyacinth, buffalo dung, hydrothermal pretreatment
