- ABSTRACT Banten is one of the areas have potential for the development of seaweed cultivation. Indonesian seaweed well known for its quality and as a source of carrageenan. One of the factors can determine the success of a seaweed farming is the use of seeds. This research aims to determine the weight of seaweed Kappaphycus alvarezii that optimal growth using floating raft. Research was conducted from September to October 2014 in the waters Karangantu, Banten. Research uses a floating raft with 4x6 m. The experimental design used is completely randomized design (CRD), where the weight of seed treatment A (40 gram), B (50 gram), C (60 gram), and D (70 gram), replicated 3 times. Based on the research results, obtained the highest absolute growth in treatment A seed is 11,11 g/day. The highest specific growth rate was obtained treatment A seed is 6,03%. As for the production of the highest wet treatment D was obtained from the seed weight of 50 g with a value of 4.620 g. Results of analysis of variance showed significant effect of treatment (P <0.05) on the growth of absolute and specific growth rate seaweed Kappaphycus alvarezii.
