- ABSTRACT This purpose of this research is the study of interest and cognitive ability in using problem based learning in environmental pollution subconcept. The research activities, using description method, took place in May 31 st to June 2 , the population of the research is all student in grade VII SMP N I Padarincang academic year 2014-2015 and is sample taken purposive sampling. Interesting in learning, measured using questionnaires of cognitive ability is using multiple choice test. The result showed of interest in student measured in questionnaires classified with percentage category is 80,44%, and average value of cognitive abilities with percentage category is 82,96. It can be concluded that problame based learning models generate interest and cognitive abilities on good category.
