  • ABSTRACT THE INFLUENCE OF TALKING STICK TECHNIQUE TOWARD STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION AT EIGHTH GRADE OF SMP RAUDHAH BARMAWIYAH TANGERANG iii By IKE DWI NURSAFIK 2223102760 This study aims to find out the significant influence in teaching reading by using talking stick technique on students‟ reading comprehension at eighth grade of SMP Raudhah Barmawiyah. The researcher conducted quantitative research by using quasi experimental design. The population of the research was the students at eighth grade of SMP Raudhah Barmawiyah. The sample were 60 students by cluster sampling technique. The class VIII-A as experimental group and class VIII-C as control group. The experimental group received the teaching reading by using talking stick technique on students‟ reading comprehension. While in control group received the conventional method. Both groups were given pre-test and post-test to find out students‟ reading comprehension before and after the treatment. The test consists of 20 test items in multiple choices. The result of post-test mean in experimental group 85.17 is higher than mean in control group 77.83. The hypothesis test used independent t-test. The result of this research showed that that t count > t table (2.651 > 1.697) and Sig < 0.05 (0.10 < 0.05). It means that there was a significant influence in teaching reading by using talking stick technique on students‟ reading comprehension at eighth grade of SMP Raudhah Barmawiyah Tangerang.
