- Stainless steel 316L is an alternative material for the manufacture of Oxide Dispersion Strengthened Steel which is corrosion resistant with good hardness and resistance to high temperatures. Oxide Dispersion Strengthened Steel is obtained by adding Y2O3 powder to stainless steel 316L alloy using High Energy Milling and sintering using Arc Plasma Sintering. Arc Plasma Sintering is a sintering tool developed by PSTBM BATAN that uses plasma energy for sintering by utilizing argon gas flow to produce plasma and prevent oxidation. Exposure to plasma for a short time quickly transfers heat without melting. In this study, the milling and mixing process of SS 316L alloy weighing 17.1 g with 0.5% Y2O3 weighing 0.9 g was carried out with variations of milling time 10 hours and 30 hours. Then continued with compaction for ±3 minutes with a strong pressure of 20 tons and sintering using APS with a current of 80 A for 20 minutes, 24 minutes and 28 minutes then characterization using SEM-EDS and XRD and tested for hardness using Vickers Hardness. The results of SEM analysis showed that with a milling time of 30 hours and sintering for 28 minutes, the ferrite phase was formed and densitification of the alloy SS 316L and 0.5% Y2O3 had occurred. Then the results of XRD analysis 30 hours milling time and 28 minutes sintering showed the crystal size was 23.43 nm smaller than the crystal size at 20 minutes sintering time, which was 30.26 nm and at 24 minutes sintering time which was 28.31 nm. For the highest hardness 159.94 HV results showed from 28 minutes sintering time. This proves with 30 hours milling time and 28 minutes sintering time, it shows the most optimal results where diffusion, density and maximum hardness have occurred.
