- Background: Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease (chronic) which is quite common today and 90% of people with diabetes worldwide are type II diabetes mellitus. Type II diabetes mellitus is caused by heredity, obesity, overeating, lack of exercise, taking drugs that have side effects of increasing blood sugar levels, and lifestyle changes. With such a lifestyle, people with type II diabetes mellitus are more at risk of unstable blood glucose levels. Type II diabetes mellitus can be controlled with the aim of normalizing insulin activity and blood glucose levels to reduce the incidence of complications. There are five components in the management of type II diabetes mellitus, namely nutritional therapy (diet), physical exercise, monitoring, pharmacological therapy and education. Objective: To describe the actions of family nursing care in patients suffering from type II diabetes mellitus with unstable blood glucose levels which include: assessment, determination of nursing diagnoses, interventions, implementation and evaluation of results. Results: After 5 visits of family nursing care, the risk of instability in blood glucose levels was resolved. Conclusion: Nursing care with appropriate intervention and implementation can overcome the problem of unstable blood glucose levels.
