- ABSTRACT The 2018 Basic Health Research (Riskesdas) conducted in conjunction with the March Susenas (Central Bureau of Statistics) showed the proportion of birth weight <2500 grams (LBW) was 6.2%, and the proportion of birth length <48 cm was 22.7%. LBW in Banten province ranks in the top 9 of 34 provinces in Indonesia, the number of LBW in the Serang Regency Health Office for the 2018 period reached 662 cases, and babies with LBW are the first cause of infant mortality in Serang Regency. At the hospital dr. Dradjat Prawiranegara Serang in 2021 there were 647 cases of babies with LBW. Babies born weighing less than 2500 grams regardless of gestational age. Birth weight is the weight of the baby weighed at birth up to the first 24 hours after birth. Neonates with a birth weight of less than 2500 grams are called premature (Proverawati & Sulistyorini, 2010 and Sembiring, 2017). LBW is the highest predictor of infant mortality, especially in the first month of life (Kemenkes RI, 2015). The purpose of this study was to determine the description of nursing care for hypothermia in low birth weight infants (LBW) with the kangaroo method of care. Descriptive research method is carried out with a case study approach about the description of nursing care in two infants with a diagnosis of hypothermia which includes assessment, nursing diagnoses, nursing interventions, nursing implementation and nursing evaluation. The results showed that both clients experienced low birth weight with hypothermia. Implementation to return the baby's body temperature to normal by carrying out external active heating (kangaroo method care) and monitoring body temperature. The results of the evaluation, nursing diagnoses in the two infants were resolved on the fourth day, it was proven that the temperature of the two infants returned to normal and did not experience hypothermia. Monitoring the temperature of the newborn is very important to avoid the baby from complications and the risk of death. Keywords : LBW, Hypothermia and Kangaroo Method Treatment
