  • The aims of this research were to find out types of code switching and code mixing used by the teacher and the teacher’s reason in using code switching and code mixing at eleventh grade of SMAN 1 Kabupaten Tangerang. The researcher used descriptive qualitative as method in this research. The subject of this research was the English teacher at eleventh grade of SMAN 1 Kabupaten Tangerang. The object of this research was teacher’s code switching and code mixing in teaching learning process. The instruments of this research were observation, interview and documentation. The result of the data shown that there were one type of code switching and two types of code mixing used by the teacher in teaching learning process. Type of code switching that found was metaphorical code switching, and types of code mixing that found were insertion and alternation. Related to the teacher’s reason in using code switching and code mixing, there were three reasons found: talking about particular topic, using interjection in Indonesian language, and using repetition for clarification.
