- This research is investigated the linguistics phenomena of code switching and code mixing and also the reasons are used by Gogirl! magazine in presenting their headline articles. This research used qualitative research design to describe the phenomena of code switching and code mixing, which including the types and the reasons why code switching and code mixing are happen. The data was collected by categorizing the data and grouping the data into each type and reasons of code switching and code mixing, analyzing the data and concluding. The analysis is focused using Hoffman’s theory in discussing both of six types code switching and code mixing and also discusses the reasons of code switching and code mixing. The result of the research shows four types of code switching and code mixing are used in Gogirl! magazine, there are: emblematic switching, intersentential code switching, intra-sentential code mixing, and establishing continuity from previous speaker. The most dominant types is intra-sentential code mixing because in Gogirl! magazine are contained a lot of sentences which usually inserted English words. Beside that, there are five reasons why code switching and code mixing are happen, the most dominant reason is change of topic because it can discuss many topics in only one headline articles.
