  • This research is motivated by the lack of reading skills and lack of interest in reading at the elementary school level, especially in class V. This study was conducted in SDN Walantaka 2 Walantaka Serang District of Academic Year 2014/2015. Learning techniques used are engineering assignments. The method used in this study is a classroom action research, which is conducted in a classroom that is collaborative between teachers and researchers with the aim of improving the performance of teachers and the quality of learning that increases student learning outcomes. The data were obtained with the following instruments: the observation and evaluation results of students. The procedure consisted of three stages: (1) action planning, (2) the implementation of the action consists of two cycles, and (3) the evaluation phase of the study that has been carried out. From the research results obtained by two cycles of the resulting increase in the average value of the students, 65,8 in the first cycle increased to 78,6 in the second cycle. Obtaining the value is proven by the results of the students who experienced an increase in the highest scores and decreased to the lowest score. This result is because students feel the improvement in the quality of learning by using techniques assignment.
