  • This research is motivated by the lack of ability of mathematical representations junior high school students when learning mathematics so needed a learning approach that is able to improve the ability of mathematical representation. One approach to learning that can be used is the RME approach. This study aims to determine: (1) Mathematical representation ability of students who get a math learning using RME and scientific approach is better than students who had learning approach scientific; (2) Increased ability mathematical representation of students who get math learning using RME and scientific approach is better than students who had learning approach scientific; (3) Learning activities of students towards learning mathematics using RME approach. The method used is a quasi-experimental method with the entire population of eighth grade students MTsN Ciruas. Sampling was done by cluster random sampling technique . The results showed: (1) Mathematical representation ability of students who get a math learning using RME and scientific approach is better than students who had learning approach scientific; (2) Increased ability mathematical representation of students who get math learning using RME and scientific approach is better than students who had learning approach scientific; (3) Learning activities of students towards learning mathematics using RME approach very well .
