- This research aims was to observe the cognitive ability and students interest of SMPN 1 Banjar VII grade students through the media puzzle in the NHT learning models on organization of life sub concepts. The method was used in this research was descriptive. This research was conducted at SMPN 1 Banjar VII grade on second semester of the academic year 2013/2014. The sampling technique was used in this research were simple random sampling. Research data retrieved using objective tests and observation sheet. The result showed an average interest of students as measured by using the observation sheet is 90.91% and included in the category of very good. Student’s cognitive ability as measured by objective tests by mulitiple choice have an average rating of 78.33 and included in the category either, as for cognitive ability as measured using observation sheet obtained and average score of student fall into the category with very good percentage of 50.52%. Observations result at the time of application of the model of the numbered heads together, all the models on the syntax that consists of numbers, ask questions, think together and answer questions already fulfiiled. Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that interest students have an effect on cognitive outcomes of students.
