- The background of this research was based on the contradiction about the impact that might be appear because of the different interpretation of pictorial health warning that represent the image of cigarette. The aim of this researches is to know the meaning of pictorial health warning on cigarrete packaging. The meaning of pictorial health warning in this research is denotation, connotation, mythology and ideology meaning of Roland Barthes. This researches examined the signs in pictorial health waring in cigarrete packaging using semiotic analiysis. This researches using qualitative approach method. Researcher collected data trhrough documentation and data anlysis using the model of Roland Barthes. There are 5 images as the object of this research. This study concluded that denotative meaning is a form of pictorial health warning in the form of a call warning of the consequences and the appearance of symptoms caused by a dangerous disease, death and distress for the child were attributable to smoking. Connotative meaning that formed is ignore the importance of the call warning about dangerous disease, death, and the dangers for children that can lead to cancer, loss of life, and harmful for children. Whereas mythology and ideology formed from the fifth image of the health warning is a threat to smokers or the impact that occurs to immediately leave their habit and more concerned about thier lives and health.
