  • This study aimed to determine the effect of peer tutoring method on cognitive abilities and motivation of student learning. The method used was a quasiexperimental design with randomized control group only. This study was conducted at SMP Negeri 1 Kragilan the second semester seventh grade school year 2013/2014. The sampling technique used in this study is random sampling. Research data retrieval using cognitive ability tests and learning motivation questionnaire. The average value of the cognitive abilities of students in the experimental class at 72.67 with good criterion while the control class is 56.33 with a sufficient criterion. Average grades for motivation to learn in classroom experiments for 77.71 with a good criterion of 70.49 while the control class with sufficient criteria. Analysis of the results of hypothesis testing using t-test at significance level α = 0.05 significance obtained 0.000 for cognitive abilities and motivation for 0000 to learn, it can be concluded the use of peer tutoring methods affect the cognitive abilities and motivation of students to the concept of environmental pollution at SMPN1 Kragilan.
