  • The purpose of this research was to know the response of nutmeg seed (Myristica fragrans Houtt) viability toward submersion of concentration level in potassium nitrate solution (KNO3) and kind of planting media. The research was held on April 2016 until july 2016 at Malang village, Saninten village, subdistrict of Kaduhejo, Pandeglang regency, Banten province. The research used a factorial complete randomized design (CRD). The first factor was submersion of concentration level in potassium nitrate solution (KNO3) and the second factor was seed planting media. The first factor consisted of 5 degree, those were: K0 (non-submerged) as control. K1 (submersion of potassium nitrate (KNO3) during 24 hours with concentration 0,2%), K2 (submersion of potassium nitrate (KNO3) during 24 hours with concentration 0,3%), K3 (submersion of potassium nitrate (KNO3) during 24 hours with concentration 0,4%), K4 (submersion of potassium nitrate (KNO3) during 24 hours with concentration 0,5%). The second factor consisted of 2 degree, those were: M1 (common soil) as control and M2 (mud). This research consisted of 10 treatment combination with 4 times repeating and its result became 40 trial units. This research used 120 seeds where every trial units used 3 seeds. The parameter which was observed was the germination time (days), the maximum grow potential (%), the power of germination (%), the grow rate (%/day), normal germination percentage (%) and abnormal germination percentage (%). The result of this research showed that the treatment of concentration submersion in potassium nitrate solution (KNO3) gave better effect in improving germination time, the maximum grow potential, the power germination, the grow rate, and normal germination percentage of nutmeg seed (Myristica fragrans Houtt) viability. Whereas, abnormal germination percentage did not give significant effect. Mud planting media also did not give significant effect toward nutmeg seed (Myristica fragrans Houtt) viability. There was no interaction between submersion of concentration level in potassium nitrate solution (KNO3) and mud planting media.
