- One alternative in meeting the needs of oil reserves in Indonesia is still lacking is the conversion of empty oil palm bunches with methods hydrothermal organic solvent because of the presence of oil palm empty bunches are still abundant and untapped, wherein the components of oil palm empty bunches are cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin which could potentially be used as bio-oil. The purpose of this research is the utilization of oil palm empty bunches (EFB) as an alternative raw material in the manufacture of bio-oil as well as assess the effect of temperature, and the organic solvent is methanol, ethanol, acetone, toluene, hexane on levels boi-oil is the best of the hydrothermal. This research was conducted by inserting the raw material waste oil palm empty fruit bunches as much as 4 grams into the autoclave and 50 ml of solvent is added. The reactor was placed on an electrically heated, and then set the temperature with a variation of 300oC, 350oC, 400oC and operating time for 5 hours. Subsequently the samples were separated between solids and liquids, in which the liquid sample analyzed by Gas Chromatography Mass Spectromerty (GC-MS) to determine levels of bio-oil formed in the sample product. The best conditions in this study showed the highest levels of bio-oil amounted to 7.24% at a temperature of 400oC using methanol solvent, with a mass of 4 grams and operating time for 5 hours with a composition dominated by esters, organic acids and then ketones. Conversions can TKKS highest of 23.77% using hexane solvent at a temperature of 400oC and operating time for 5 hours.
