- HEADMASTER LEADERSHIP OF MIN TINAWAS AND MIM OF PROGRAM KHUSUS KENTENG IN DISTRICTNOGOSARI OF BOYOLALI (Comparative Study) ABSTRACT Public demand for a qualified educational institution of madrasah(Islamic School) is highly increasing and headmaster has a very important role to improve the quality of madrasah. Among others, “MIN Tinawas” as an elementary public Islamic school and “MIM PK Kenteng”as an elementary private Islamic school are madrasah which have a good quality. Hence, a comparative study was done to highlight those schools.The objective of this study is to explain leadership strategy of the headmasters to improve the quality of “MIN Tinawas” and “MIM PK Kenteng,”namely; 1). the characteristic of the headmaster leadership, 2). the function ofthe headmasterleadership, 3) the headmaster leadership style, 4). The quality realization of madrasah, and 5) the barriers and solutions of headmaster leadership. This study was a descriptive or qualitative study . The study was done in two elementary Islamic schools, namely; “MIN Tinawas” and “MIM PKKenteng,“ in Nogosari district, Boyolali. The study was conducted in three months starting from September up to November 2014. The Subjects of the study were the headmaster of “MINTinawas” and the headmaster of “MIMPK Kenteng”. The informants in this study were teachers, students, school committee ofboth “MIN Tinawas” and “MIMPK Kenteng” and teacher supervisors (PAI). Observation, in-depth interviews, document analysis wereused in collectingdata. Extended participatory technique, triangulation of method and triangulation of sources were used to check the data validity. The technique used to analyze datawas interactive model consisting of data collection, data display, data reduction, and conclusions drawing. The results of the study show that the headmaster leadership strategyof“MIN Tinawas”and “MIM PK Kenteng” are as follows: 1).the headmasters of the twomadrasah have good leadership characteristic applied in the organizational life of madrasah;2). the headmastersare able to perform leadership functions properly supported with a long work experience;3). the headmasters implementa democratic leadership style in developing the madrasah quality;4). the quality assurance realization of the two madrasah is good; and 5). The obstacle faced by the headmaster is some madrasah stakeholders less awareness and activity to improve the madrasah quality. To solve the problem, the headmasters emphasizeon supervision and disciplinary, a good salary for teachers and staffs. and a good communication and partnership with madrasah stakeholders.
