  • ABSTRACT Recently, there is an increase in the quantity (number) and the academic and non-academic achievement of students at Muhammadiyah Elementary School of Gading I (MIM Gading I) Klaten. It occurs presumably because this institution has made changes to management by applying Total Quality Management (TQM). The purposes of this study are to determine (1) implementation of TQM at the Muhammadiyah Elementary School of Gading I Klaten, (2) the service quality at Muhammadiyah Elementary School of Gading I Klaten. This study applied qualitative descriptive research method. It was conducted at Muhammadiyah Elementary School of Gading I Klaten. The subjects of this study were headmaster and teachers. Whereas the informants of the research were students and school commitees. Technique of collecting data used observation, interview, and documentation. Technique of data validity employed triangulation of data sources and methods. While data analysis used interactive model analysis that consists of data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The result of this study can be summerized as follows: (1) The quality of management system at Muhammadiyah Elementary School of Gading I Klaten. If it is observed from element of Total Quality Management (TQM) which consist of: (a) focus on the costumers, (b) respect for the quality, (c) to work together in the team work. In other words, school has applied the quality management, (2) The improvement of school quality management is carried out by arranging strategic plan which is realized in the development plan contains vision, mission, and objectives, also strategy programs of school and the obvious assignment distribution. The students are served well begins on learning process both in class and out of class; for example by implementing dhuha pray regularly, praying dhuhur together, and extracurricular events, Quality Management system is in satisfactory level.
