  • Key words : Writing Workshop, Teaching, Journal Article Writing The objectives of the research are (1) to describe the procedures of writing workshop in teaching journal article writing to the sixth semester students of English education department at IAIN Surakarta in the academic year 2015/2016; (2) to discover the problems faced by the lecturer in teaching journal article writing using writing workshop to the sixth semester students of English education department at IAIN Surakarta in the academic year 2015/2016. To conduct the research, the researcher uses the descriptive qualitative research. The researcher conducted the research from April until June 2016 in the C class of the sixth semester students of English education department at IAIN Surakarta. The researcher collected the data from the observation, interview, and documentation. The researcher did three steps to analyze the data such as; reduction the data, display the data, and verification or drawing conclusion. To prove the trustworthiness of the data, the researcher uses the triangulation especially source triangulation or data triangulation. The result of the research shows that; (1) The procedures of writing workshop in teaching journal article writing are same with the theory related to the writing workshop. There are some activities that done by the lecturer in the writing workshop such as; preparation before the writing workshop, materials related to the technical writing, feedback from the lecturer, correction the students’ article paper, and evaluating students’ article paper. (2) The problems faced by the lecturer are the difficulties in found the students’ potion, faced students with low grammar, and faced students who not understood enough about the materials related to the research methodology.
