This research aims at finding the answer to the following research questions: 1) How is the process of teaching learning of writing in the eleventh class of IPA Unggulan and IPA Reguler of SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Sragen the academic year 2016/2017? 2) How are the results of teaching learning process of writing in the eleventh class of IPA Unggulan and IPA Reguler of SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Sragen the academic year 2016/2017? 3) What are the similarities between IPA Unggulan class and IPA Reguler class in teaching learning process of writing on the eleventh class of SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Sragen the academic year 2016/2017? 4) What are differences between IPA Unggulan Class and IPA Reguler class in teaching learning process of writing on the eleventh class of SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Sragen the academic year 2016/2017?. This research used descriptive qualitative method. The subject of this research is teaching learning process of writing at the eleventh class of IPA Unggulan and IPA Reguler class. Researcher gets the data from events, informants, and documents. The techniques of collecting the data are observations, interviews, and documentation. The techniques of analyzing of the data are reduction, data display, and verification. The research findings are the teaching learning process of writing in IPA Unggulan and IPA Reguler class were conducted in following components are materials, methods, media, and evaluation. The materials were used by teacher only sourced from internet. The method used by the teacher is cooperative learning. The media used by teacher were LCD, laptop, and blackboard. The evaluations conducted by the teacher were task, formative test, and summative test. The result shows student between IPA Unggulan and IPA Reguler were different because IPA Unggulan more innovative abilities and IPA Reguler only took from teacher. Then, the similarities between IPA Unggulan and IPA Reguler class are the teaching learning process and the components of teaching learning process, such as materials, methods, media, and evaluations. The differences between the two classes lied in students‟ abilities and facilities.
