Keywords : Movie, Freedom Writers, Strategies, Teaching English The problems of the research are: 1) what are the strategies of English teacher’s in freedom writers movie? 2) what are the roles of teacher in freedom writers movie?, The purposes of this research are: 1) to describe the English teacher’s strategies in freedom writers movie, 2) to find out the roles of the teacher in freedom writers movie. The researcher used descriptive qualitative research consisting of some data in the form of word, phrase and sentences. They are used to describe something that have happened in the process of teaching. In conducting the research, the researcher collected the data by using instrument of the data that consist of document in the form of script and the researcher. Then the researcher analyzed the English teacher strategies in the movie to obtain more information regarding with teaching strategies. The result shows that in teaching English the teacher uses nine strategies namely: lecture or presentation to teach the students about historical material, music memory to teach poetry, giving task to teach grammar, story telling to teach about historical material, discussion to teach about gang problem, games to teach about a gang problem, study tour to teach about historical material, role playing to teach about speaking and famous people to teach about a gang problem. Those strategies positivly can help students acquire motivation in learning and comprehend the material. From all of the strategies are used by the teacher in the freedom writers movie, the teacher also positions herself as certain roles namely teacher as controller, teacher as tutor, teacher as observer, teacher as prompter, teacher as resource and teacher as participants.
