Advisors : Muhammad Zainal Muttaqien, S.S., M.Hum Key words : Error, Error Analysis, Writing, Spelling, Spelling Error The objectives of this research are to know and explain about (1) what are the types of errors made by the students at tenth grade of MAN 1 Boyolali and (2) which type of spelling error that most frequently occurs in students’ writing of MAN 1 Boyolali. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative research. The research was carried out to the tenth grade students of MAN 1 Boyolali on May 2017. In collecting the data, the researcher is used writing test on recount text. Then, the data are analyzed by using error analysis procedures which consist of collecting the data, identifying students’errors, classifying errors, explaining errors based on the sources of errors and accounting errors. From that result, the data was analyzed by Bestgen and Granger’s category, to classify the types of spelling errors. The findings of the research showed that students of tenth grade science program (X IPA 2) at MAN 1 Boyolali committed nine categories of spelling errors. These ten categories covered omission of a letter, addition of a letter, single letter instead of double letter, double letter instead of single letter, substitution of one letter, interchange of two adjacent letter, involving an apostrophe, erroneous splitting or joining words (word segmentation error), and two or more error of the same type or different types (multiple errors). Meanwhile, the most frequently error that occurred in the students’ writings was omission of letter category. ABSTRAK Hikmah, Siti. 2017. Pembimbing : Muhammad Zainal Muttaqien, S.S., M.Hum Kata Kunci : Error, Error Analysis, Writing, Spelling, Spelling Error Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui dan menjelaskan mengenai (1) apa saja jenis kesalahan yang dilakukan oleh siswa kelas sepuluh MAN 1 Boyolali dan (2) jenis kesalahan apa yang lebih dominan dilakukan dalam tulisan siswa MAN 1 Boyolali. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada kelas sepuluh MAN 1 Boyolali bulan Mei 2017. Pengumulan data pada peneletian ini, peneliti menggunakan tes menulis dalam sebuah text yaitu recount text. Selanjutnya, data dianalisis dengan menggunakan prosedur analisis yang terdiri dari pengumpulan data, identifikasi data, klasifikasi data, penjelasan kesalahan sesuai dengan kesalahan yang ditemukan dan meghitung kesalahan yang telah ditemukan. Dari hasil prosedur analisis yang sudah dilakukan, kemudian data di analysis dengan kategori dari Bestgen and Granger, untuk mengklasifikasi jenis dari kesalaan ejaan (spelling). Temuan dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa siswa kelas sepuluh IPA 2 MAN 1 Boyolali melakukan kesalahan dengan sembilan jenis kesalahan ejaan (spelling). Dari sembilan kesalahan yaitu omission of a letter, addition of a letter, single letter instead of double letter, double letter instead of single letter, substitution of one letter, interchange of two adjacent letter, involving an apostrophe, erroneous splitting or joining words (word segmentation error), and two or more error of the same type or different types (multiple errors). Kemudian, kesalahan terbanyak yang dilakukan dalam hasil tulisan siswa yaitu kesalahan pada omission of letter.
