Woro Retnaningsih M.Pd Key words : Reading Habit on English text, Vocabulary mastery, Writing Ability The researchis intended to verify (1) whether there is any correlation between reading habit on English text and writing ability; (2) whether there is any correlation between vocabulary mastery and writing ability; (3) whether there is any simultaneously correlation between reading habit on English text, vocabulary mastery toward writing ability. This is a quantitative research. The research was carried out at SMP Batik Surakarta in 27October – 7December 2015. The population of this study was the eight grade students of SMP Batik in the academic year of 2015/2016. The samples of this study are 8C and 8D students consist of 60 students, 8C students to be the subject of try-out and 8D students to be the subject of research. The sampling technique used is cluster random sampling. The instruments in collecting the data were questionnaire and test. The questionnaire was used to get the data of students’ reading habit on English text while the test was used to get the data of students’ vocabulary mastery and writing ability. The technique used to analyze the data was single and multiple linier regression and correlation. The results of the research are (1) there is a positive correlation between students’ reading habit on English text (X1) and writing ability (Y) because the correlation value is 0.787 with the coefficient of determination is 61.93%; (2) there is a positive correlation between students’ vocabulary mastery (X2) and writing ability (Y) because the correlation value is 0.569 with the coefficient of determination is 32.37%.; (3) there is a simultaneously positive correlation between students’ reading habit on English text (X1), vocabulary mastery (X2), toward writing ability (Y) because the correlation value is 0.818. Regarding to the result of the research, the researcher suggests that to improve students’ vocabulary mastery, the teacher should consider students’ vocabulary mastery first then their reading habit on English text.
