- This study objective is determine the development of sharia-based school culture in creating character education of students in The State Vocational High School Islamic Integrated (SMK IT) of Surakarta, which include factors that inhibit the development of school culture and the Sharia-based solution. This study uses a qualitative descriptive study. This means that the procedures or ways of solving the problem of research by describing the object under study as actual facts that are happening. The research was conducted at The State Vocational High School Islamic Integrated (SMK IT). The subjects of this study is the principal of the school, the student and the vice principal of student affairs, while as an informant is a teacher, homeroom, teacher guidance and counseling, caregiver hostel. Technics examination of the data validity uses triangulation of sources and methods. Methods of data collection uses interview, observation and documentation. Analysis of data uses an interactive model that consists of data collection, data reduction, data presentation and conclusion. The results showed that the sharia-based school culture developed through religious activities and school culture that comes from the moral values of Islam can lead to character education in everyday life, in practice there are some obstacles both internal and external of the school. Internal barriers innate character of students, lack of infrastructure, team work is not stable, the educational background of the student, and the wicked nature of the student. As for the external factors, namely the obstacles negative impact of globalization and technological sophistication, lack of support from parents, social influence, the influence of social patterns before staying at the hostel. As for the solution of these obstacles rests on the opportunities that can be exploited for the development of sharia-based school culture in character education of students in The State Vocational High School Islamic Integrated (SMK IT)of Surakarta that may cause the student's character such an honest character, discipline, responsibility, and in environmental cares. Opportunities are there that come from within the school environment (internal) and some from outside the school environment (external). Opportunities include their internal education programs, such as training, support, reward and punishment, personal approach, and the commitment of the stakeholders of education. While, the external factors that could be used as a solution is a supporting government policies, local Islamic culture, family and community support.
