Vocabulary is one of important aspect in English subject that should be mastered by students. The objective of this study is to find out whether a song lyric is effective to teach vocabulary for first grade students‟ of MAN Sukoharjo in the academic year 2016/2017. This research used quantitative research with quasi experimental. This research was conducted from 15 April to 23 May, 2017. The researcher took the sample by using cluster random sampling in which students were divided into two groups, 30 students of X religion belong to experimental class and 30 students of X 3 social belong to the control class. The research instruments used test to collect the data. In analyzing the data, the researcher used SPSS version 17 to analyze the data description and inferential data. The result of SPSS computation shows that the value of t count is 6.433 and the significance value is 0.00. The value of t table in significant level 5% (two tailed test) with df=30 is 2.042. From the data which was described in research finding above, it is concluded that Ho was rejected while Ha was accepted since the data has met the requirement of t count is higher than t table (6.433> 2.042) and significant value is lower or less than 0.05 (0.000 < 0.05). Therefore, it can be concluded that Song Lyrics is effective applied by the teacher to teach vocabulary especially for the students of MAN Sukoharjo.
