Pd Keywords : Writing, Task Based Language Teaching, Direct Instruction Method The objective of the research is to know the effectiveness of Task Based Language Teaching to teach writing at first grade of MAN 2 Boyolali in the academic year 2016/ 2017. The students got some problem in teaching learning process especially in writing class. This research was carried out of MAN 2 Boyolali because this school is one of the other MAN that best predicate in Boyolali and at first grade. This research used type of experimental design is quasi experiment (post-test only design with non-equivalent control group design). The sample of this research is first grade of MAN 2 Boyolali in the academic year 2016/ 2017. This research uses purposive sampling to collect the sample at first grade. This research use second sciences class as experimental group and religion class as control group. Every group consists of 25 students. In experimental group was taught by using Task Based Language Teaching while in control group was taught by using Direct Instruction Method. The data was the score of students after the researcher give three time treatment of each class. The data was analyzed by using T-test formula. The mean score of experimental group is 79.76 while the mean score of control group is 78. The result of T-test computation that Tois 5, 5 while the value of T table is 2.064. It shows that To (T observed) is higher than Tt (T table). Therefore, the alternative Hypothesis (Ha) is accepted while the null Hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. Based on the result above, the research findings is there is significant difference between students taught by using Task Based Language Teaching and those taught by using Direct Instruction Method. It means that Task Based Language Teaching is effective to teach writing at first grade of MAN 2 Boyolali in the academic year 2016/ 2017.
