Key words : Politeness Strategy, Education Value, “Freedom Writers” Movie This research is pragmatic study on politeness strategies and education value in communication between teacher-students and students-teacher in the movie entitled “Freedom Writers. The objectives of this research are (1) To describe the type of politeness strategies used by teacher and students, (2) To describe the type of education value used by teacher and students. This research used descriptive qualitative approach. The key instrument of the research was the researcher himself. The data were in the form of utterances which contain politeness strategies and education value. The data source was the conversation between teacher and students movie script. The data were collected by note-taking technique then they were classified and analyzed. The trustworthiness of this research used investigator triangulation to get an appropriate data in order that the result of the study is reliable and valid. The results of the research show two important points. First, there are four types of politeness strategies used by teacher-students and students-teacher in Freedom Writers movie: Bald-on record strategy (21 out of 87), the sub-strategies are; showing disagreement/criticism (2), giving suggestion/advice (5), requesting (12), warning/threatening (1), using imperative form (1). Positive politeness strategy (30 out of 87), the sub-strategy are; claiming common ground (13), conveying that S and H are co-operators (14), fulfilling H‟s want for some X (3). Negative politeness strategy (11 out of 87), the sub-strategy are; being indirect (1), not presuming/assuming (2), not concerning H (2), communicating S‟s want to not impinge on H (6) and Off record strategy (25 out of 87), the sub-strategies are; inviting conversational implicature (17), being vague/or ambiguous (8). Positive politeness strategy has the highest frequency among other strategies but among sub-strategies inviting conversational implicature is the highest. Second, there are two types of education value; value of being (45 out of 83) sub-types are; honesty (15), bravely (16), peace ability (8), covidence and potention (4), self-discipline and moderation (2). Then value of giving (38 out of 83) sub-types are; respect (7), love and affection (10), sensitive and not-selfish (4), kinds and friendly (11), fair and humane (6). Among all sub-types, bravely is the highest.
