The study was focused on soil carbon sequestration and functions; factors which influence soil carbon levels; how much carbon can be stored; and land management options for carbon sequestration. Soil carbon sequestration will stimulate important changes in land management and has a significant effect on soil properties, and agriculture and forest land quality. Increasing soil organic carbon (SOC) stocks through the increase of inputs and/or decreasing C decomposition is the heart of SOC sequestration.</description><description lang="id-ID">Naskah ini menyajikan kajian tentang pengelolaan penyerapan/sekuestrasi karbon organik di dalam tanah yang dirangkum dari berbagai sumber dan bertujuan untuk menyediakan informasi dan input kebijakan untuk pengambil keputusan pada sektor pertanian dan kehutanan. Kajian difokuskan pada sekuestrasi dan fungsi karbon organik tanah; faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi sekuestrasi/ simpanan karbon organik tanah; jumlah karbon yang dapat disimpan di dalam tanah; dan opsi pengelolaan lahan untuk meningkatkan simpanan/sekuestrasi karbon tanah. Sekuestrasi karbon ke dalam tanah akan mendorong perubahan penting dalam pengelolaan lahan dan mempunyai efek yang signifikan terhadap sifat-sifat tanah dan kualitas lahan pertanian dan kehutanan.
