  • This study is aimed to identify the effectiveness of using vocabulary self-collection strategy (VSS) in improving students’ vocabulary mastery at EighthGrade students of SMP N 1 tahunan in academic year 2021/2022. This research used experimental research using Quantitative research non equivalent control group design. The researcher used non random sampling technique that involve two classes which is experimental class consist of 32 students and control class consist of 30 students. The result showed that there is significant different at the students’ score from pretest and posttest. The mean score in experimental class for pretest is 69,375 and the posttest is 83,125. For control class, the mean score for pretest is 68,103 and the posttest is 79,137. The conclusion of the study based on the research and the data analysis that have been done, the researcher found that the students have significant difference between the pretest and posttest score or before and after the treatment, and the implementation of vocabulary self-collection strategy is effective to improve the students’s vocabulary mastery.
