THE USE OF TOTAL PHYSICAL RESPONSE METHOD IN TEACHING VOCABULARIES (A Descriptive Research at the Fourth Graders of State Elementary School 2 Bangsri Jepara in the Academic Year of 2016/2017)

- The objectives of this study were to describe the procedure of teaching English vocabulary to the fourth graders of Elementary School 2 Bangsri Jepara using the Total Physical Response (TPR) method and the students’ achievement after being taught through total physical response method. The writer also got the factors that influence the implementation of total physical response method. To achieve the objectives of the study, the writer conducted a descriptive research. The subject of the study was the grade IV. There were 31 students; 11 male and 20 female. This research was conducted three meeting in the classroom. There were three method in data collection. They were observation sheet, test, and interview. The researcher found out the improvement of the students' achievement by the test. In the first test, the average of students’ result in the first test was 95.81. This result was good for the first meeting. The average of students’ result in the second test was 93.87. In the second test, the average score decreased from the first test because the difficulty of the material was further improved than the first test. The words were more variation than the first material. The average of students’ result in the third test was 95.17. This result was good than the second meeting. But, the result of the first test was higher than the third test, because the first meeting used simple command. Based on this data, the writer concluded that teaching English vocabulary through TPR was very beneficial for the students and the teacher in order to facilitate them in learning English vocabulary. It was suggested that TPR in teaching English vocabulary is recommended for the English teacher.
