THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING SURVEY, QUESTION, READ, RECITE, AND REVIEW (SQ3R) METHOD IN READING COMPREHENSION OF NARRATIVE TEXT (A Quasi Experimental Study at Tenth Grade of MAN 1 Jepara in the Academic Year of 2018/2019)

- The objective of this research was to examine the effectiveness of SQ3R Method applied in teaching reading comprehension of narrative text for the tenth grade students of MAN 1 Jepara in the academic year of 2018/2019. The design of the research was conducted by using quantitative approach in an experimental research. In this study, use a quasi experimental design which this design was carried out in two classes. There was experimental and control class. The experimental class was given treatment by using SQ3R method, but the control class was not.The population of the research was all of the tenth grade students of MAN 1 Jepara which were divided into ten classes. The total of populationn was 368 students. The sample of the research was X IIS 3 as an Experimental class and X IIS 2 as an control class The total of sample of the students for Experimental class was 37 students and the control class was 37 students. The data were collected trough test which delivered into the pre-test and pos-test in two classes, Experimental and control class. Before given pre-test and post-test to the students, the research must do trying out instruments. Trying out instrument was needed in order to know validity and reability. Trying out instruments was given from another class in experimental and control class. The mean of the score of experimental class was 79,13 while the score of controlled class was 69,29. To find out the SQ3R method was effective or not used t-test calculation. From the result of t-test calculation, it was obtained that the value of t-observe was 3,4 and the degree of freedom (df) was 72. In the table of significance 5%, the value of degree of freedom (df) was 1,66. Clearly it can be seen that the value of t-observe was greater than the value of t-table or 3,4 > 1,66. In other word, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. Therefore, used of SQ3R method in teaching reading comprehension of narrative text for the tenth grade students of MAN 1 Jepara in the academic year of 2018/2019 was proven effective.
