- Abstract: Motivation is considered to be one of the most influential factors in learning. Students' motivation ar: engagement in the classroom depends on both internal and externa! factors. Despite numerous studies on learners' motivation and how it influence learning outcome, little research exists regarding he public university EFL lecturers utilize all motivational activities in Indonesia. This qualitative case stud. is conducted to investigate how EFL lecturers' perceive the role of motivational strategies in teaching how they interpret this understanding into practice, and how EFL students perceive their lecturer motivational practices. This case study adopted the single embedded design in which participants : one single organization are grouped into two main clusters to better capture their understanding a be. motivational teaching strategies. In depth interview against five EFL lecturers and thirteen student teachers was conducted to encapsulate beliefs, experiences and perspectives of participants. Th .. method of data collection is supported with observation and field notes to triangulate and confirm the self reported data. The EFL lecturers and student teachers believed that motivation consists of twe nature and nurturing with more reliance given to nurturing motivation. Participants of both dusters perceived that teacher factor is central to motivation. The need for figure to follow was strong . recalled and insisted by student teachers and EFL lecturers. This understanding positively reflected in:: practices where lecturers create, generate and maintain their motivational teaching strategic. demonstrating dominancy in the classroom. Several unique practices derived from the study we--: sh'aring success story of EFL lecturers, contextualizing and giving reinforcement. These distinct1. factors appeared to arise from the interplay between culture and context of the study. Motivation ; crucial for learning but the form and strategies could be unique to every setting. These finding; highlight that valid and replicated Motivational Teaching Practices (MTP) framework required nation: or regional accommodation based on contextual factors. Furthermore, lecturers should also consitie-some components of MTP which for student teachers' important but less considered by lecturers.
