Students at SMAN 10 Makassar (supervised by Akmal Hamsa and Mayong). This
research uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method. The
research design used was the pretest-posttest control group design. There were
two variables in this study, namely the independent variable in the form of a
learning model and the dependent variable in the form of exposition text writing
skills. The population of the study were all students of grade X at SMAN 10
Makassar with the total of 310 students. The research sample consisted of 62
students from 2 classes, namely Class X MIPA 1 and Class X MIPA 5. Sampling
was conducted by employing random sampling technique. The technique used in
collecting the data was the writing assignment technique. The research data were
analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics t-test with SPSS for
windows 26.0 assistance. The results of this study reveal that the problem based
learning model is more effective to be used than the explicit instruction learning
model, proven by the t-test that the significance value is 0.00<0.05 and the tcount
value is greater than the ttable value or (1.929>1.67). Thus, the conclusion of the
study is H1 is accepted and H0 is rejected.
