- ABSTRACT This research highlights Students needs in Learning English in Indonesian Islamic Higher Education. The objective of the research is to explore the needs of Tafseer Qur’an students in learning English. Qualitative case study research method was employed to describe a phenomenon on students’ needs in learning English involving 57 of Tafseer Qur’an students and 1 English Lecturer. The data were collected employing questionnaire and interview. The data from analyzing students need were obtained by using the combination of need analysis approaches of Hutchinson and Waters (1987) & Dudley-Evans & St. John (1998); (1) present situation analysis, (2) target situation analysis, and (3) learning solution analysis. The result of the research indicates that Students need to improve their grammar, pronunciation and vocabulary mastery. Islamic content is required to be attached in the English materials. They chose learn outside the classroom, learn in small group and using picture, video, and audio recording as the methods in teaching and learning English. This study also showed that the speaking and listening are the most important skills in learning English.
