- General anesthesia has side effect to increase secretions of respiratory system. Secretions will accumulate in the oral cavity that can increase normal flora in the respiratory tract such as Staphylococcus aureus. Staphylococcus aureus increased and colonized, than goes down to lung and caused pneumonia. The way to decrease the colonization of Staphylococcus aureus is oral hygiene. The purpose of this study is determine the difference between chlorhexidine 0,2% with NaCl 0,9% as oral decontamination for staphylococcus aureus’s colonization to patients with general anasthesia. This study was Quasy experimental wich non equivalent control group design with consecutive sampling. The sample consist of 20 post operative patients with general anesthesia that devided into 2 groups: the treatment group was given chlorhexidine 0.2% and the control group was given NaCl 0.9%. Oral hygiene was given two times a day (morning and evening) for 2 days. Data were analyzed by using statistical mann-whitney test. Mann-whitney test showed p-value 0.010 <α (0.05). Chlorhexidine 0,2% has more effective than NaCl 0,9% as oral decontamination for the staphylococcus aureus’s colonization in post operative patients with general anesthesia. Because Chlorhexidine 0,2% have bacteriostatic effect more than NaCl 0,9%.
