The limited teaching materials for speaking skill that are suitable to the syllabus and the need of the students make the process of English teaching especially for speaking skill in SMPN 7 Malang does not maximize. Based on the problem above, this Research and Development (R&D) study is aimed to develop teaching materials in the form of supplementary speaking materials. The product is expected to give valuable significances for the English teacher, the students, and the future researchers, in the effort of varying speaking activities in class. The materials are developed based on the standard of content from the ministry of education, the school curriculum, and task-based approach proposed by Nunan (2004). This study used the research and development design which was adapted from Hyland (2003). It consists of seven stages which are (1) need analysis, (2) developing materials, (3) expert and teacher validation, (4) revision I, (5) Product Try Out, (6) revision II, and (7) final product. The instruments used for this study are document study, interview guide, validation checklist and questionnaire. The data from document study and the teacher interview were described qualitatively. Meanwhile, the results of the validation checklist were described quantitatively and qualitatively as well as the results of the try-out questionnaire. After having done the procedures above, the final product was produced. It consists of six basic competences namely; (1) greeting, (2) introducing, (3) command and prohibition, (4) asking and giving information, (5) gratitude and (6) apology. It delivers within tasks (activities). In each activity the students are provided with learning objective, six headlines namely (1) gambits, (2) word list, (3) dialogue, (4) grammar/cultural info, (5) freer practice (make your own speech), (6) role play and group work. It also varies in terms of topics which are academic life, games, birthday, times, fauna and culture. The try-out was conducted once to the subjects, 7G class of SMPN 7 Malang. There were 35 students in the class. The results of the questionnaire from the try-out stages showed that the students were interested in the product. It was because the product provided attractive layout, activities and topics which are appropriate with their proficiency level. It helps them reduce their boredom in learning speaking. The weaknesses of the product are (1) not all tasks were tried out, only four of nine tasks from four units were tried out, (2) the grammar review in the final product was not completed by grammar exercises, (3) the product only tried out once. Therefore, the teachers who will use the materials can make any changes of the materials to suit the need of the students.
