One of the basic requirements is speech acts strategy, which conveys intention and purpose of the communication by the hope that it is understandable to the hearer. This study will focus on finding the application of illocutionary act dealing with speech act especially types of illocutionary act seen in Barrack Obama's speech video. The research design of this study is descriptive qualitative. The data sources of this study are from Barrack Obama’s speech scripts which were taken from www.whitehouse.gov. In order to support the accuracy of analysis, the researcher also needed the video of Barrack Obama’s speech which was taken from the same website with the script that was published in 2011, 2012 and 2013 and the research instrument is the researcher himself. In this study, the types of illocutionary act mentioned by Cruse (2000) seen in Barrack Obama's speech videos were analyzed based on spoken discourse by Edmonson (1981). All of the types of Illocutionary act exist in the speeches and each of them has different number of appearances. There are 14 utterances in video 1, 13 in video 2, 82 utterances in video 3, 15 in video 4, and 26 utterances in video 5. One utterance may be longer than the others and may contain more issues than the others. Despite the fact that one long utterance might consist of more than one types of illocutionary act, the researcher has categorized it into one type of illocutionary act: a type which represents most of the purpose of the sentence, that is the most frequent in that sentence. The dominant types occur between the clauses in five videos can be categorized into the rank. From the table, it presents that Assertives is the most frequent types found in those five speeches. The second most frequent are Expressives, which is featured in the video 1, 2, 4 & 5, and Directives in the video 3.Futhermore, right below that the third rank of both speeches is Directives and in video 3 is placed by Expressive. Finally, the fourth is placed by Commisives in all videos. Therefore, the use of illocutionary act by Barrack Obama gives a clear description of types of illocutionary act in every stage in Barrack Obama's speech videos. However, still there must need development from Linguistics students in analyzing the phenomenon of it. Hopefully, this research becomes a trigger for the student to conduct more valuable research in contributing the comprehensive description on illocutionary act in other issues. Penelitian ini akan fokus pada mencari penerapan tindakan ilokusi berurusan dengan tindak tutur terutama jenis tindakan ilokusi terlihat di dalam video pidato Barrack Obama. Rancangan penelitian dari penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Sumber data penelitian ini adalah dari script pidato Barrack Obama yang diambil dari www.whitehouse.gov. Dalam mendukung keakuratan analisa, peneliti juga membutuhkan video pidato Barrack Obama yang diambil dari website yang sama dengan script yang diterbitkan pada tahun 2011, 2012 dan 2013 dan instrumen penelitiannya adalah peneliti sendiri. Dalam penelitian ini, jenis tindak ilokusi yang disebutkan oleh Cruse (2000) terlihat didalam video pidato Barrack Obama yang kemudian dianalisis berdasarkan wacana berbicara oleh Edmonson (1981). Semua jenis tindakan ilokusi ada di pidato dan masing-masing memiliki jumlah yang berbeda dari kemunculannya. Ada 14 ucapan di video 1, 13 ucapan dalam video 2, 82 ucapan dalam video 3, 15 ucapan di video 4, dan 26 ucapan dalam video 5. Satu ucapan mungkin lebih lama dari yang lain dan mungkin berisi lebih banyak masalah daripada yang lain. Terlepas dari kenyataan bahwa salah satu ucapan yang panjang bisa terdiri lebih dari satu jenis tindakan ilokusi, peneliti telah dikategorikan ke dalam salah satu jenis tindakan ilokusi: jenis yang mewakili sebagian besar tujuan dari kalimat, yaitu yang paling sering dalam kalimat itu . Jenis-jenis yang dominan terjadi antara klausul dalam lima video dapat dikategorikan ke dalam peringkat. Dari tabel tersebut, menyajikan bahwa Assertives adalah jenis yang paling sering ditemukan di lima pidato. Yang kedua yang paling sering adalah Expressives, yang ditampilkan dalam video 1, 2, 4 & 5, dan Directives dalam video 3. Selanjutnya, tepat di bawah bahwa peringkat ketiga dari keempat pidato adalah Directives dan dalam video 3 ditempati oleh Expressives. Akhirnya, pada peringkat keempat ditempati oleh Commissives didalam semua video. Oleh karena itu, penggunaan tindakan ilokusi oleh Barrack Obama memberikan gambaran yang jelas tentang jenis tindakan ilokusi di setiap tahap dalam video pidato Barrack Obama. Namun, masih membutuhkan pengembangan dari siswa linguistik dalam menganalisis fenomena itu. Penelitian ini diharapkan menjadi pemicu bagi siswa untuk melakukan penelitian yang lebih berharga dalam memberikan kontribusi deskripsi komprehensif tentang tindakan ilokusi dalam isu-isu lainnya.
